The Church of St. John & St. Stephen Home has two doctors retained to provide care to our residents. They make weekly visits and provide 24 hour coverage for residents. Any appointments such as optical or dental must be arranged by the family.
We offer 24 hours of care therefore there is always a Registered Nurse on duty. We also have a Licensed Practical Nurse on each shift as well as Resident Attendants to compliment our team.
We are committed to providing nutritious, well balanced and appealing meals to our residents in a home-like environment. Our Dietitian meets with new residents as soon as possible once admitted to discuss food preferences, allergies, special therapeutic diets, past eating habits and will answer any dietary questions.Menus are displayed on the board in each dining room. Meal times are as follows:
Residents personal laundry is done on-site. All clothing items should be labeled and may be brought to the Nursing Supervisor to ensure they will be sent to laundry for labeling. In order to keep closets organized we recommend no more than 7 outfits at one time.
The Activity department offers leisure programs for residents to participate in. Each month there is a calendar of events prepared and posted through the home with copies available in the front entrance. We also have a wheelchair accessible bus available for outings.
Our music therapy program is run by a Certified Neurological Music Therapist, who uses music and music activities to improve and maintain the quality of life of the residents physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally.
The music therapy program is not about the music therapist entertaining the residents but about providing programming where the residents themselves are the music makers. This might be in the form of instrument playing, toe tapping, hand clapping, song selection or singing.
When the time comes we have a Hospice Suite available. This area provides privacy as well as a few amenities for the comfort of the families.
There is a hairstylist in house available for our residents. The cost of the services will be charged to the residents comfort/trust account. Appointments are made through the Nursing Supervisor. Price list is posted on Hairdressers door.
Rehabilitation support services are offered to our residents by a Licensed Practical Nurse. This professional works collaboratively with an occupational therapist, physiotherapist and speech therapist as needed.
Church services are provided by the Presbyterian Church and other religious denominations from our community. Our Pastoral Care Director is happy to help with any spiritual needs of the residents.
